Generating Viral Marketing Strategies

By Sue

Viral marketing strategies are the “golden fleece” of the internet.  Successful marketers understand the power of viral marketing and are constantly looking for ways to generate their own viral success.

Do you remember that video that made its way around the ‘Net a couple of months ago where a wedding couple planned an exciting dancing entrance for the entire wedding party?  That video got millions of hits in a few days.  That’s viral!

Attracting attention to go viral

One of the most attractive words in the English language is “free.”  For a viral strategy to be seriously effective it should offer some product or value for free.  That can mean designing an entertaining video that is likely to be passed on or creating a format that is easily passed on to someone else.  The specifics are less important than the appeal.

Design scalability from the Start

If you are offering a free product make sure your server can handle a lot of business when things take off.  A truly viral strategy will start with a trickle and then explode exponentially, so be prepared for the possibility.

Videos are best placed on YouTube for ease of access and availability.

Use Available Networks to Propagate

Everyone has a network of individuals they communicate with on a regular basis.  Online that means the people in your contact list, the individuals that follow your blogs or social networking profiles and other such links.  This is to the marketer’s advantage.

Once you have successfully “hooked” one person, the power of these networks goes to work for you.  That one person will send out your viral link to several of their contact, and they will do the same.  One person grows to two, and they to four and onward.  It is easy to see the potential.

By creating easily accessible content, adding free items and utilizing available networks to promote your products and services, you can generate a successful viral plan.  If you feel you need more help, then hire a good mentor to assist you in getting your first viral marketing idea off the ground.  It is money well spent.
